10 Thoughtful Christmas Gifts for Adult Sons and Daughters Posted on October 8May 6 Choosing Christmas gifts for your adult children can be a challenge. It’s easier when they are small children but as adults you are less involved in their daily lives and may not be as in tune with what they want. When searching online for gifts for adult children you often come across suggestions that you know aren’t suitable for your children. You must keep in mind their unique personalities and particular interests and hobbies. For example, I know that my children don’t like receiving gift cards because they feel they are too impersonal. The following list may spark an idea or two of what could appeal to your adult children. Adult Daughters My daughter is currently doing her doctorate and she is under a great deal of stress. I wanted to find gifts that would help her to relax and feel comforted. The first one I came across that I thought she would appreciate was a weighted blanket. 1. Weighted Blanket The Topcee weighted blanket is made of soft, breathable microfiber and filled with non-toxic, hyper-allergenic glass beads. It is purposefully smaller than an ordinary blanket so weight is concentrated on the body. If you have insomnia, a weighted blanket can help you to relax and wind down. It has a cooling effect in the summer and will warm you up in winter. Your daughter can use it for sleeping or for reading, relaxing, or meditating. 2. IRON °FLASK Sports Water Bottle This stainless steel sports water bottle has double insulation to keep a drink cold for up to 24 hours and hot for up to 12 hours. It comes with three different leak-proof lids – a flip lid, a stainless steel lid and a lid with two straws. It is 100% BPA free, non-toxic and won’t leave a taste of metal or rust in the mouth. The straw lid makes it great for sipping cold drinks or smoothies. The flip lid with handle makes it easy to carry while the stainless steel screw-on lid gives a tight seal and long-lasting insulation. This water bottle will help your daughter stay hydrated during workouts, hikes or any other physical activities. 3. Electronic Facial Cleansing Brush This rotating face brush gives a deep cleansing. It has two-speed control and three different brush heads. The first brush head removes dirt and oil. The second is helpful for really oily skin. A silicone brush head is gentle and soothing for sensitive skin. The two-speed control allows for gentle or deep cleaning. The brush is suitable for all skin types. It is powered by two AA batteries (not included) and comes with a neat, small, protective case. 4. Earring Organizer My daughter loves wearing earrings but she has no way of keeping them properly organized. She is always digging around in drawers or jewelry boxes for them. She would love the X-cosrack wood and metal earring holder with 32 earring holes. It can hold 66 pairs of studs, hoops, and dangle earrings in five tiers and also has organizer hooks for bracelets and necklaces. The gaps between the tiers are of a different size so they can match all earring types. A wooden tray at the bottom can hold watches and rings. She can see all the items and decide at a glance what will go best with her outfit for the day. The functional and modern design of this organizer will go well with her bedroom decor. 5. Yoga Mat This yoga mat is half an inch thick so it is just the right thickness to offer support and yet avoid sinking into it. The textured surface gives traction for movement and the elastic strap makes it easy to carry. A simple wipe-down is enough to clean it and it rolls and packs away easily. Adult Sons Adult sons will usually tell you they have everything they need when you ask them what they want for Christmas. My son always does this but he is disappointed if I don’t manage to figure out what he wants. Some of my choices for him were guided by the fact that he works remotely. 6. Memory Foam Slippers My son spends most of his working day in slippers now that he doesn’t have to commute to work. These Rock Dove two-tone memory foam slippers are stylish and comfortable. They come in a variety of colors and the memory foam insole conforms to the contours of the foot. It has a sturdy rubber sole so walking outside with them isn’t a problem. The clog style makes the slippers easy to slip on and off and there is enough of a heel collar so the feet don’t slip out. The waffle knit upper allows the feet to breathe. These slippers are machine-washable so it’s easy to care for them. 7. Catan Playing board games is back! Millennials have discovered the fun of playing exciting new board games with their friend groups. The variety of board games available today is extensive. My son and my son-in-law love playing them at any family gathering. They have introduced me to Settlers of Catan because they thought it was one I would grasp easily and enjoy. They were right! It’s a civilization-building game that is a hit with many ages. The game takes place on a hexagonal game board and combines chance with strategy. Three to four players can play or 5 or 6 when using expansion packs. You have to combine resources – grain, wool, ore, brick and lumbar – to buy development cards and build roads, settlements, and cities. It doesn’t take long to learn how to play but the strategies you use can be complex enough to keep it entertaining. If your son already has this game (which could be the case because it is so popular) you will need to find out which board games he doesn’t have. There is likely to be at least one that’s on his wish list. 8. Under desk bike and pedal exerciser This under desk bike and pedal exerciser is a great gift for anyone who has to sit at a computer for long hours. Sitting for so long can have some seriously negative health consequences. My adult son is a software engineer and spends most of his day at his desk. With this nifty little exerciser, he can get exercise while working. It has an easy-to-read LCD screen for viewing time, distance, calories, count, and total count. Non-slip rubber foot pads give the device stability and there are non-slip grips on the pedals. A tension knob is available for adjusting resistance. Placing the exerciser under a desk helps to exercise the leg muscles and burn calories. Using it on the desktop helps to tone arm muscles and improve circulation. The LCD screen requires an AAA battery and some assembly is needed. 9. Blue Tooth Beanie Hat Headphones My son often wears beanies so I thought a headphone beanie would appeal. It will keep his head warm and allow him to listen to music at the same time. This one has large battery capacity and low consumption so it offers up to 16 to 20 hours of working time. It has a stable and secure connection and a responsive control panel. The HD speakers give crisp, clear sound and the maximum volume is 110 db which is loud enough in a noisy environment. The beanie itself is made out of soft, double-knit fabric and comes packaged in a quality gift box. 10. Vegetable Chopper and Slicer Many millennial men enjoy cooking just as much as women today. They are happy to receive gifts that can help them to create fancy meals without too much effort. This vegetable chopper and slicer has two spiralizer blades and two chopping blades made of stainless steel. It has a built-in chop lid which makes it easy to cut foods directly into the large plastic catch tray. Your son can create fancy spirals or finely dice vegetables without having to use a knife or chopping board. He can chop fruits, vegetables, and spices in seconds. The chopper is BPA free, dishwasher safe and easy to use and clean.
